What is your background?
I grew up in Brooklyn, NY. I came to Pennsylvania for college and have been in the area ever since. I wasn't always a dietitian, I actually started as a medical technologist and became a dietitian after following my own health journey. I have a Master’s degree in Human Nutrition from Drexel University. I also have a Certificate of Training in Obesity Interventions for Adults and expertise in providing information regarding plant-based diets. Currently, I am very passionate and comfortable providing strategies to help clients better manage issues regarding gut health, diabetes, and heart disease.
What are the values that drive you?
Self-care drives me. I believe that if you want to make changes in your life, you have to be willing and want to help yourself. It's one of the things we often deny ourselves the most of.
What do you like about working at the charge group?
I love traveling and being in new spaces. It keeps things new and fresh, which helps make everyday so uniquely different.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Outside of work, I share a great deal of information regarding my day to day on my instagram account @plantbasedrd. I share daily recipes and inspiration for those looking to add more plant-based meals to their diet for optimal health. I wasn’t anticipating for this platform to grow as much as it did, but I am happy that it allows me another way to reach as many people as possible to help empower them towards better health. I also love comics, video games and taking pictures of my food!
Can you share your favorite health tip for clients?
Most people I meet with tell me how much they hate vegetables, but consider this instead: There are hundreds of ways we can change the flavor or experience we have with vegetables. Think about how we flavor or prepare meat for example. You can take time to marinate, grill/bake and crust your meat or you can throw it in a pot of boiling water and get a rubbery mess. If we took time to treat our veggies the same way we carefully cook our meat, we would likely have a more positive experience with them too.
What is your favorite food or snack?
Plantains, rice and mango. How can I pick a favorite?
name three of your favorite books, movies, or podcasts.
1. Red Rising Trilogy by Pierce Brown (Book)
2. West Side Story (Movie)
3. Motivation to Move (Podcast)
What are your top 5 grocery store must haves?
Chocolate covered frozen fruit. I’m particularly fond of the chocolate covered bananas that have the creamy texture of ice cream.
Dried Chili Mango from Trader Joe’s
By far the cheapest and most tasty snack!
I’m Hispanic and plantains are just a staple and this is such an easy on-the-go snack that’s salty, crunchy, and has way more nutritional quality than your average potato chip.
Because it is cheap and goes with everything
If you want to elevate flavor, this is the seasoning to get!
What is your Favorite quote?
"The relationship you have with yourself sets the tone for every other relationship in your life."
After several months of feeling frustrated and stuck at the same place, I’ve lost 3.6 pounds. Since working with Catherine, my fat is down and muscle is up. Total weight loss is 23.6 lbs. Since beginning my involvement with The Charge Group, I’m very close to where I want to be!
The Charge Group came into my life at a time when I desperately needed to get healthy but on my terms and it’s working. I’m committed to this life change and feel and look (even if I do say so myself) great!"
